CAFÉ

Duration: 15'

Was performed and designed in 2016 during a workshop with Ana Gesto in Fundación Granell in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia. It is a sonorous piece with public participation. Depending on the space that is provided, the artist would delineate the area by walking around while inviting the public to take a series of needles from a piece of reclaimed cork suggesting to the public that they could use them on the balloons that were hanging from the artist's body. The performer would continue her path until all the balloons were popped. With each pop, grains of coffee would leave a trail as the public, while attempting to burst the remaining balloons, would step on the grains filling the space with the object, sound, and smell.

Café is a political piece that questions the act of intervening a personal space, which is the singular, individual body, from a collective space which is the public and the public's intention/action. The intervention of a collective body highlights the state of Latin America. More specifically, in this case, Colombia.
