ACTION ART PHOTOGRAPHY
WHY ACTION ART ?
There is much dispute whether to use the word performance or action, while some scholars have even suggested the word live to describe this discipline. While I use action art and live art interchangeably to describe my works, rarely am I keen on using the term performance art. Yes, performance art, perhaps in English is a term that would encompass aspects of this discIpline. However, it is not one that can be easily translated.
Many times this term is confused with the performing arts, and while in my work I defend that every dance piece, music piece, work in progress, everyday life actions, and theater pieces can have elements of performance, they are still not exclusively an action/live art piece.
Action art is a term I've come to harness despite working with dance. The reason for this is because it's in that small blurry range between visual arts and performing arts where the lack of categorization meets possibility and fluidity. It's in that nexus where art can meet daily life.
WHAT IS ACTION ART PHOTOGRAPHY ?
Action Art Photography, simply put, is an action that is meant for the camera with the intention of it being sold. It is more than an artistic photograph and less of an action happening in the moment.
What is taken away is the experiential process of a happening/live art piece.
What is added is a poetic intention. A direct purpose.
