HUELLAS I

Duration: 10'

Performed in the Facultade de Belas Artes, Universidade de Vigo (Pontevedra) in 2016. This piece was an early work of what would later transform into the (NO) choreographies series. Using concepts of live art, butoh and the Gutai group, Huellas I was created. As the name suggests, leaving a print, a mark in two very ephemeral objects (body and flour) was key. Here the artist's primary focus was in finding new, necessary movements in a body that is no longer considered an aesthetically pleasing dancer's body. Leaving a mark is a play on words: it's the trace that this repressed body leaves on the flour, and it is the mark that the injury keeps in the body.

While the leg that was trapped in an organically formed cast, the rest of the body was occupied in recreating these aesthetically beautiful, choreographed balletic movements. Both the ribbon and the white leotard draw back to this idealized body, idealized concept of perfection, but are deeply contrasted when there is a limitation.
